The C.A.I.R.S. undergraduate research council at OCU takes pleasure an announcing an opportunity for undergraduate student/faculty teams to receive grants for actively conducting research projects this coming summer 2012. Faculty and students will receive remuneration for conducting research, $3,000 for the faculty member and $2,000 for the undergraduate research assistant is offered for qualified projects.
Please note the following stipulations for faculty member and student research assistant (RA) teams:
Faculty member/undergraduate RA teams only.
Research projects are generally defined as those which test hypotheses with original data using quantitative or qualitative methods.
Research projects involving human subjects will be considered prior to Internal Review Board (IRB) approval, if accepted funding would be contingent upon IRB approval.
Proposed research project must be conducted over the summer of 2012.
Proposed research project has specific goals that faculty researcher shares with the RA and are agreed to by the RA.
Faculty members must mentor RA in areas of study and research methodology.
Faculty member must monitor and supervise the RA within a spirit of mentorship.
RA must actively engage in research at least 150 hours during the summer.
RA must present the results of the research project at undergraduate research day as a poster, or publish in Stellar or Scarab OCU journals (to be completed the following semester).
RA must additionally present the work formally at an appropriate state, regional or national academic conference (to be completed within 2 semesters).
Faculty Load: Faculty member may not teach more than 6 credit hours in addition to research mentorship.
RA Load: Student may not take more than 6 hours during the summer and must limit commitments to outside employment.
